Emmerdale further explores Tom King’s darker side next week as he cruelly manipulates his new wife Belle.
The ITV soap has started airing an issue-based storyline exploring Tom’s abusive behaviour towards Belle.
Early next week, Tom callously gives Belle the silent treatment when he discovers that she has received a job opportunity from Suzy Merton.

Later, Tom drops the bombshell that he has made a promise to his uncle Jimmy and aunt Nicola on Belle’s behalf.
Jimmy and Nicola are worried that they haven’t prepared their daughter Angelica well enough for her inevitable sentence at a Secure Children’s Home.
Tom reveals that he said Belle would speak to Angelica about her own experience in the Secure Children’s Home a few years ago.
Belle wants to say ‘no’ to this, but comes under pressure when Tom makes her feel guilty about her response.

Reluctantly, Belle speaks openly to Angelica about what the other children at the SCH may be like.
Angelica is left terrified by the harsh reality of what Belle is describing – and she even becomes worried that she could experience mental health difficulties like Belle did.
When Jimmy walks in on the conversation, he finds that Angelica and Belle are both upset. He comforts his daughter and rebukes Belle for scaring her.
Belle rushes off after the upsetting afternoon and she’s left baffled when Tom shows little sympathy.

Tom denies that he was responsible for encouraging Belle to speak to Angelica, seeming to rewrite history.
As Tom’s mind games take hold, Belle feels grateful when he promises to “protect” her in future.
Emmerdale airs these scenes on Thursday, February 29.
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
