Emmerdale to air special episode as Belle and Tom storyline takes even more devastating turn
Tom King and Belle Dingle will be front and centre of a very special episode that will be full of hard-hitting scenes, Emmerdale's producer has revealed
Emmerdale will air a heartbreaking special episode dedicated to Tom King’s vile abuse of Belle Dingle.
The pair will head off to a remote cottage in Wales but there Tom’s abuse of his wife Belle will take a heartbreaking turn in a very special episode on the ITV soap. Producer Sophie Roper revealed to The Mirror and other press about the importance of covering a storyline like this, no matter how hard it might be for people to watch.
Speaking about the important storyline, producer Sophie Roper shared: “Belle and Tom is obviously a huge storyline for us at the moment and incredibly important but difficult storylines to watch at the moment. It’s resonating with our audience because, of course, it’s such a huge, real issue. We’re continuing with that story, trying to be really truthful to those kinds of relationships.”

Revealing there was a special episode coming up, Sophie warned there would be some tough scenes ahead. She explained: “We’ve got a special episode coming up that sees Tom and Belle head off to Wales on a trip away together.
“Actually we recreated Wales in Yorkshire. Our fantastic design team used a cottage in the village that we redressed and made this beautiful Welsh retreat. The story, set to the backdrop of this beautiful cottage, is going to be really hard-hitting.”
She added of what’s to come for vile Tom and fan favourite Belle: “Tom is very much isolating Belle from her family, from her surroundings, from everything that she knows and loves, which is unfortunately a typical trait of abusers. It will be difficult drama at moments, but a really important message and a really important story to continue to tell.”
Fellow producer Laura Shaw recently revealed that the storyline will run until the end of the year. She said: “We said right from the beginning we wanted to tell the story as truthfully and authentically as we can. This isn’t something that is over in a couple of weeks, it goes on for a long length of time. Viewers can expect the storyline to run until the end of this year.”
James Chase – who plays Tom King – insisted his character would face justice. He said: “I think it has to happen because it’s what he deserves. He can’t get away with it. I don’t know to what extent [how it will end]. Belle needs justice for what’s happened to her and the audience needs that. We have to see her win in the end or for him to lose.”
