Emmerdale fans have been left fuming after the ITV soap was cancelled tonight owing to the football.

The drama from the Dales was already pushed back to 8.30pm but in a schedule shake-up, as the match between Spain and Germany went to extra time, Emmerdale was postponed and will now not air this evening. However, all is not lost for soap fans as Coronation Street will air tonight at its planned time of 9pm, clashing with Love Island.

Tonight’s episode of Emmerdale had the synopsis: “Paddy encourages Mandy to apologise, Sarah is furious, and Gabby senses something is wrong,” whilst there will also no doubt be the fall out from Caleb’s confession and Nicky and Suni’s exit last night.

Whilst we won’t get any action from the Dales tonight, soap producer Sophie Roper recently revealed there is lots of good things coming up on the show. Speaking about what’s to come, she said: “The Dingles have been at the heart of our show for 30 years now, and will continue to be so. We lost Steve recently, so we’re going to be marking Zak’s passing in the coming months with a Dingle funeral. It will be very difficult for a lot of people who work on the show and obviously a lot of our viewers who have grown and love Zak for many, many years – but it will be a hugely fitting tribute for a great character.”

However, it won’t be all sad and there will be some happy storylines too as Mandy and Paddy finally tie the knot. She added: “Elsewhere in the Dingle world, we’ve got Mandy and Paddy building towards a wedding. It is Mandy and Paddy, so that’s going to be filled with fun. We’ve had Mandy’s dress made in-house by one of our dressmakers. It’s going to be very Mandy. It’s going to be very big. It’s going to be very fun. So look out for some fun in amongst all of that with the Dingle clan.”

Fuming fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the postponement. One wrote: “They always mess around with the soap schedules on itv#Emmerdale #Corrie.” A second added: “ITV have dropped #Emmerdale at the last minute but it’s on ITVX.” A third wrote: “#emmerdale no Emmerdale tonight football is a pain in the a*** scrap it all.”
