Emmerdale legend opens up on ITV soap future after 30 years as Sam Dingle
Emmerdale icon James Hootton has played Sam Dingle for almost three decades and the soap legned has opened up about his future live on ITV daytime show Loose Women
Emmerdale star James Hooton has opened up on his future playing Sam Dingle.
Speaking on Loose Women alongside his TV son, Sam Hall – who plays Samson Dingle – on Wednesday (June 10), the soap legend gave an insight into his life plans.
When asked about his stay on the show by host Christine Lampard, the fan-favourite actor, who first appeared as Sam in 1995, simply said, “As long as they’ll have me I’ll stay there.”
Over the last three decades, James has dominated some of the most exciting storylines. However, a pleasant surprise awaits viewers, as they watch Sam stepping out of the shadow of his domineering brother, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley). in upcoming scenes.
In a series of nail-biting episodes, fans will see Sam finally standing up to Cain. Stirring up the dramatic turn of events is Matty Barton’s (Ash Palmisciano) unwarranted imprisonment, on account of Samson;s falsified claims, reports the Express.
Matty, living in constant fear in jail, becomes the focal point for his family’s desperate attempts to secure his release. As Samson weaves a web of lies, the fracas within the Dingle household rises to a crescendo.
Discussing the upcoming Dingle battle, James remarked: “Cain always seems to have his own best interest at heart and I think Sam realises that and he actually ends up standing up to Cain, which is a bit of a first.”
He added: “Sam gives Cain a left hook in the Woolpack and knocks him to the floor. The shoe is on the other foot so I suppose it’s quite nice he got a comeuppance.”
“It’s pretty much a one off more than the start of some strange bare knuckle fighting storyline for Sam. He’s just dipping his toe in mild violence before going back to his normal self.”
But, soap enthusiasts shouldn’t bank on a second showdown between the two anytime soon. James quipped: “The amount of fallouts we’ve had, it’ll eventually be water under the bridge.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
