Emmerdale’s Dean Andrews looks completely different with huge mullet

Emmerdale actor Dean Andrews is best-known for portraying Will Taylor on the ITV soap, but he also has had a successful music career - and an incredible mullet

Dean Andrews has played Will Taylor in Emmerdale since 2019

Emmerdale’s Dean Andrews, known for his role as Will Taylor, has left fans stunned with a throwback picture showcasing his mullet from back in the day. The snap, taken in 1986, features a young Dean rocking the hairstyle while entertaining at a holiday camp, prompting one admirer to comment on “an impressive mullet you have there”.

Before gracing our screens in Emmerdale since April 2019, Dean had been captivating audiences with his singing prowess for over two decades. Born on 6 August 1963 in Rotherham, Yorkshire, Dean, or “Deano” as he’s warmly referred to, was picked up by renowned filmmaker Ken Loach for the film The Navigators in 2001, which marked his acting debut.

Dean’s journey to the Dales included a stint on EastEnders as character Dean in 2002, and he also appeared in the TV special EastEnders: Ricky and Bianca that same year.

His career trajectory continued to soar with appearances in popular TV series such as Clocking Off (2003), Casualty, Shameless, The Street, and Silent Witness, according to the Daily Star. He showcased his range playing Pete Lewis in Being Eileen in 2013 and Robbie from 2012 to 2016 in Last Tango in Halifax.

Yet, it’s his portrayal of the tough DS Ray Carling in the BBC hit Life on Mars that many fans hold dear, where he shared the screen with John Simm and Philip Glennister from 2006 to 2007, and later reprised his role in the sequel Ashes to Ashes alongside Keeley Hawes from 2008 to 2010, reports OK!.

Dean frequently shares glimpses of his time with the casts of both shows, including a playful behind-the-scenes performance of Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl, sung alongside co-stars Philip Glennister and Marshall Lancaster in the third series of Ashes to Ashes.

Another photo features Dean with co-star Monseratt Lambard and 80s Spandau Ballet legend Tony Hadley on the Ashes to Ashes set. In another scene, Andrews and fellow actor Marshall Lancaster are dressed as Superman and James Bond for a costume party in one of the show’s storylines.

Ashes to Ashes also highlighted Dean’s singing talent, a skill he developed long before his acting career. For twenty years, he performed as a singer on cruise ships and at clubs. He once posted a nostalgic 1986 album cover from his singing days on his Instagram, posing in black trousers and a tan leather jacket, titled You to Me are Everything.

Away from the camera, Dean is a devoted Rotherham football fan and in 2022, he participated in a fundraising event for the Rotherham Hospice. The family man is happily married to Helen Bowen-Green, shares his life with their two children, and recently welcomed granddaughter Ida-Rae in August 2022.
