Emmerdale: Woah! Makers Blew Half Of The Yearly Budget In ONE WEEK

Emmerdale

Entertainment is a tough business, more so when it comes to finances, as everything is just so expensive! Emmerdale is no different than any other soap that runs on a strict budget. However, it seems that the makers of the ITV soap went way overboard with churning out some high-voltage scenes. So much so, that they allegedly blew half a year’s budget on one week’s worth of scenes!

In a recent chat with the media, former Emmerdale star Bill Ward revealed that back in 2016, the makers kicked up some epic scenes that ended up costing them half a year’s budget! Interestingly, the scenes in question were centered around his character – James Barton. The dramatic scenes that kept millions of eyeballs glued to their screens ultimately saw James falling to his death.

Back in 2016, the scenes showed James’ scorned and vengeful wife Emma pushing him off the bridge. His fall caused a horrifying accident that involved many other mainstay characters in the show. It was then popularly named, the Hotten Bypass Crash. Bill told The Sun that it was truly amazing and groundbreaking the way the makers filmed and screened the scenes.

“We were on a film, a proper film set down in Surrey for a week shooting that. And it was really, really exciting,” he pointed. He added that makers blew half of the year’s budget on filming the scene, but it was truly worth it. The scenes were filmed on film cameras and they did only one or two take at a time.

“It was a really, really brave piece of television making, brave piece of filming making,” Bill commended the Emmerdale makers. Even though his character’s death forced him to exit the soap, Bill has no regrets. He has since done an array of roles on many other big productions. In fact, he even has an upcoming play in Newcastle titled Gerry & Sewell.

We wish Bill Ward all the best for all his upcoming ventures. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more such interesting Emmerdale updates. Meanwhile, do you remember watching the Bypass Crash? Tell us in the comments.
