Emmerdale confirmed the departure of a character on the ITV soap on Friday night

Viewers tuning into Friday night’s Emmerdale were told some big news, as a character’s exit was announced seemingly offscreen.

Days after Nate Robinson was last shown before a devastating fire tore through Moira Dingle’s barn, the soap revealed he had left the village for good. In the latest episode, Nate’s loved ones were saddened to realise he had fled to Shetland after landing a job opportunity there in a recent episode.

Jurell Carter quit the role of Nate after five years, with this being his exit storyline. But amid him being AWOL during the fire drama, fans were convinced he had been killed off and that Nate was dead.

However on Friday night, John Sugden confirmed he’d seen Nate before he left the village, confirming he had been away from the farm when the fire happened. He also confirmed that Nate had decided to leave and soon left the village, without saying goodbye to many residents.

He’d just had a violent showdown with his father Cain Dingle over a misunderstanding, and he told John he needed to flee the “toxic” village. He also ended things with Tracy Metcalfe for good after she refused to believe him over the Moira situation, with Nate leaving her and his daughter Frankie behind.

Actor Jurell has now broken his silence, finally confirming his exit and discussing his sad final scenes that had already aired on Monday. With him not featuring in episodes for the rest of the week, Jurell confirmed to The Mirror and other press that Nate had fled for Scotland after all.

Explaining Nate’s decision to up and leave, confirming his exit, he told us: “It feels like everything is just falling apart overnight. It’s huge for him but family is massive for Nate. The fact that family is everything to him, it’s a pivotal moment in terms of Nate going forward and his decision leaving everyone behind.

“It’s not what he wanted to do, but he’s been left with no choice. It’s not backfired but everything has shattered apart. He’s lost his family and everything else.” Nate was proven innocent over his apparent kiss with Moira in the episode, with those who turned on him realising he had done nothing wrong but that it was too late to fix things – but will Nate forgive Tracy and Cain?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
