Rhona is at risk of being banged up after kidnapping baby Ivy – who is technically hers – from her ex-partner Gus a few weeks ago.

As the women chatted in the cafe, an extra could be seen sitting behind Rhona reading a magazine.

Eagle-eyed soap fans realised it was Chit Chat, a fictional publication that has featured in rival ITV soap Coronation Street for years.

Chit Chat received even more attention in a recent Corrie storyline after Bethany Platt sold a story on Daisy Midgeley and Ryan Connor’s acid attack and subsequent affair to the magazine.

Bethany had a crisis of conscience and tried to get the story pulled, but the Chit Chat editor was having none of it and the story ran anyway.

When Daisy found out, she marched round to see Bethany and berated her for using something so harrowing to make a quick bit of cash.

Bethany said: “I didn’t realise they’d make it sound so… lurid.”

Grabbing a copy of the counter, Daisy raged: “Well it’s called Chit Chat Bethany, what did you think it would be? An in depth psychological investigation?”

After the Emmerdale scene, one soap fan tweeted: “They have Chit Chat in #Emmerdale too????”

Another asked: “Was that extra in #Emmerdale reading Bethany’s piece in ChitChat?”

A third simply shared a screenshot of the moment and wrote: “Chit Chat” in bold.

It isn’t the first time the two soaps have joined the same ‘universe’ though.

Back in autumn 2021, the four main soaps plus Casualty, Holby City and Doctors filmed special scenes to cover different aspects of climate change which referred to each other.

In one Coronation Street scene, Gary Windass mentioned “a doctor in Yorkshire” who had set up his own allotment.

This was a reference to Emmerdale’s GP Liam Cavanagh, who had set up the allotment to help him deal with his grief over the death of his daughter Leanna.

Meanwhile Emmerdale made a reference to Hollyoaks, before the then-Channel 4 soap gave a nod to BBC‘s Doctors.

Over on EastEnders, the BBC soap had a scene where Tiffany Butcher watch a clip of Corrie’s Maria Connor taking down Tracey Barlow during a debate about air pollution.

Emmerdale and Coronation Street both air on ITV1 and are available on ITVX.
