Emmerdales

BAD LADS I’m a soap superfan and ranked EastEnders and Emmerdale’s most evil criminals – people forget how awful they are

Both men have a staggering list of crimes to their name after years of terrorising their neighbours and in some cases, their own loved ones.

A SOAP fan has posed the ultimate question for Emmerdale and EastEnders viewers – which one has the biggest villain?

In a Reddit post, the user pitted Cain Dingle from Emmerdale against EastEnders’ resident hard man, Phil Mitchell.

Both men have been staples of their respective fictional areas for many years, with Phil – played by Steve McFadden – arriving in Walford in 1990, while Cain – played by Jeff Hordley – first appeared in the Emmerdale village in 2000.

Writing in the post, the Reddit user asked: “little question for anyone who watches both Emmerdale and EastEnders in terms of overall crimes who do you think is worse? Cain Dingle? or Phil Mitchell?”

“The characters are basically the same person these days and they both have a long long Rapp sheet of crimes but overall who do you think is the worse person? Cain or Phil?

“If anyone needs their memories Jogging tho if you don’t please feel free to skip to the Bottom lol.”

They listed Phil’s crimes as:

  • arson which accidentally resulted in a man’s death.
  • Brutally beating up his teenage nephew Jamie.
  • emotionally abusing his girlfriend Lisa.
  • setting fire to his family’s pub putting loads of people in danger.
  • loads of examples of GBH such as badly beating up Steve Owen, badly beating up Vinnie Franksb badly beating up Jack Branning and Vincent Hubbard, and having Dennis Rickman beaten up by Heavies.
  • not to mention countless attempted murders against Johnny Allen, Keanu Taylor, Jack Branning, Carl White, Ian Beale and so on and so fourth.
  • he was an accomplice to Jack Dalton’s murder by lending Dennis his car and gun so he could go carry out the killing to prevent Dalton from coming after both of them again in the future.
  • he helped cover up Heather’s murder at least for a little while until Ben eventually did turn himself in for it.
  • he framed Max Branning for Lucy’s murder for a little while until Bobby Beale eventually publicly confessed to the crime.
  • he broke into Ian’s home while he was on the run from the police and torture drowned him in a toilet to get him to give up the location of some money.
  • and countless other things lol way too many to count.
Both men have a history of violence and crimes

Meanwhile Cain’s Rap sheet includes:

  • unintentionally causing a car accident killing Angie Reynolds and another police officer.
  • unintentionally causing the King show home explosion killing 3 people.
  • Grooming and abusing a teenage girl in order to spite her mother.
  • shoving that girl’s Granddad down a flight of stairs after he caught them in bed together.
  • multiple counts of GBH including brutally beating up Robert, brutally beating up Dr Bailey, brutally beating up Jason, brutally beating up Simon and having Lachlan beaten up in prison.
  • multiple counts of kidnapping including kidnapping and torture starving Nathan Wylde, kidnapping Tom King Kidnapping Al kidnapping Pete kidnapping Robert etc etc.
  • countless attempted murders against characters like Cameron Murray, Robert Sugden, Gordon Livesy, and so on and so fourth.
  • he also killed a couple of animals in the past including a cat and a dog.
  • and he convinced Kim to leave Craig Reed to die of his injuries in the field after he was kicked by her horse.

Soap fans were divided on who was the worst

They concluded: “Again too many to count, so anyway who do you think is the worse person based on Rap sheets?”

One replied: “Cain just pips it due to the grooming and abuse of a teenager for me.”

Another wrote: “I think Phil is more traumatised by his upbringing than Cain was by Shadrach.

“Also, Cain hasn’t been a horrendous dad. Phil has been pretty awful to Ben for most of his life. I am too young to remember Cain’s reaction to Aaron’s coming out, but throughout more recent Aaron SLs (present day excluded!) Cain hasn’t shown a shred of homophobia. Phil still struggles at times.”

In reply, a fellow soap fan said: “He made few digs about Charity sexuality and Debbie when she had fling with Jasmine. I think Cain been an ass to Aaron but that not really about his sexuality imo. I mean his reaction to his affair with Robert was more about not liking Robert imo.

“Cain slept with his daughter gf which is pretty cruel. and has hit Debbie. Cain also been toxic to his love interests like Phil has. But kind think Cain kind of a teddy bear compared to Phil.”

Another mused: “From what I’ve seen of Emmerdale and Eastenders. I think Phil Mitchell is the worse in terms of crimes. I remember when Phil pretended that he wanted to shake his ex-wife Lisa’s hand in the hospital but he brutally squeezed her hand deliberately inflicting pain upon her, and then dragged her through the hospital corridors and physically threw her out of the building.

“All of this violence was completely unprovoked and completely unwarranted.  Heaven knows how none of the hospital security guards noticed what happened, but that’s another story.

“As much of a thug as Cain Dingle has been, he has never set out to commit woman abuse – unlike Phil. He’s never been that calculatedly vicious and monstrous.

“Also, Phil deliberately tried to commit cold-blooded murder more than once. The same cannot be said for Cain. Phil Mitchell’s much more evil and dangerous than Cain Dingle.”
