CLUED UP Emmerdale fans convinced legendary villager is returning to village after 20 years amid string of ‘giveaway’ clues

The actress made a guest appearance on another ITV show recently which added fuel to the fire.

EMMERDALE fans are convinced a legendary villager is returning to the show after 20 years amid a string of ‘giveaway’ clues.

The ITV show recently saw the return of Vanessa Woodfield after actress Michelle Hardwick came back from maternity leave.

However, some Emmerdale fans are convinced a huge star from the soap’s yesteryear could be returning.

Last month a fan took to a soap forum and wrote: “Some Big Emmerdale coming next week apparently.

“I think we’re about to learn that Betty has died and Kathy Glover will return to Emmerdale to scatter her ashes. She returns with a family and a husband and will run the B&B which is apparently going up for sale soon

“A joyous return for one of the shows loveliest characters and a lovely actress too. Malandra will be a huge welcome return.”

Malandra Burrows played Kathy Glover in Emmerdale from 1985 to 2001, with a brief return in 2005.

During her time on the show, she married four different men, and had a number of dramatic moments including being kidnapped by a diamond-thieving lord and getting trapped in the wreckage of a bus which had been hit by a lorry.

While many thought the poster was just speculating, a tweet by agent Melanie Blake added further fuel to the fire.

She wrote: “Just got a gorgeous bunch of white roses from a client who is due to reappear to your screens soon – I can’t tell you who as its secret for now but the card read ‘just wanted to say how grateful I am & thank you for believing in me, I really never expected to have another chance like this, thank you’ that was after she’d shot 3 magazine covers & booked two TV slots to promote her ‘return’ to ‘soap land’.

“This is why I do what I do & why I love #SoapQueens – I sought her out, pitched her & now it’s happening – away from my own writing, that’s the ‘buzz’ & what I love about #TalentAgentLife – making dreams come true & also reminding people that audiences never forget stars they’ve once invested so much time of their lives in watching – even if it was 20 years ago, soaps are like family for many viewers- so seeing a long lost face is like having a reunion with a loved one & I get such a thrill watching the reaction & knowing that I helped play a part in making someone happy as well as giving audiences great surprises. The flowers were just a bonus.”

But as time has gone on, no announcement fitting the criteria has been made, and one fan raged: “They’ll soon be announcing the next BIG return, which will be (drum roll) ………..Kerry back from maternity leave.

“Followed by the next BIG return……….. Bernice back again, before leaving again 6 months later. Still holding out hope that the big soap return Melanie Blake was referring to will be Kathy!”

A soap fan added: “Kathy returning would be a dream come true and she would fit perfectly in the B&B.”

Another wrote: “I still think it is her. Her appearance on the Christmas big quiz show was the biggest giveaway. I just think it has taken time to write up and plan her story and entrance into the village.”

It isn’t the first time fans have called for Malandra to return to the show, after she appeared in in The Big Quiz: Coronation Street v Emmerdale in December.

The 58-year-old actress stunned fans in a sequin black number and curled blonde hair.

Host Stephen Mulhern asked her: “When you look back at your time in Emmerdale – good memories?”

Malandra answered: “Oh a fabulous time. I wish I could say the same for the male actors that worked with me, because they never survive, they all met untimely ends.”

Stephen then asked if a return to Emmerdale was on the cards and she replied: “Never say never.”
