DEJA VU Inside Emmerdale’s Charles and Manpreet’s troubled past – from hidden identities to doomed wedding
The couple had history long before they both arrived in the Yorkshire village.
CHARLES Anderson and Manpreet Sharma have had quite the week in Emmerdale.
The couple welcomed the new Bishop to the village, but faced scorn from Charles’ mum Claudette for not being married.
Despite the Bishop not being as much of a traditionalist as his mum, Charles ended up implying to him that a marriage would happen in the future.
Then during Wednesday’s episode, Charles popped the question in the pub, much to Manpreet’s shock and horror.
Back home, Manpreet told Charles she felt pressured and said: “We’ve been there before, remember, I ditched you at the altar… not my finest hour!”
While some Emmerdale viewers will remember this fact, others were shocked to learn the couple had reached the altar before.
So here’s a rundown of their relationship so far.
When did Manpreet and Charles meet?
The first time Emmerdale viewers saw Manpreet and Charles meet was in January 2021 when the vicar arrived in the village.
However, it quickly became clear that they recognised each other, despite the fact Charles referred to Manpreet as Saira.
Charles said he had believed her to be dead for a number of years.
It meant Manpreet – who was in a relationship with Rishi Sharma at the time – had to come clean about her past with Charles.
When were Manpreet and Charles first together?
Manpreet explained how she had been having an affair with Charles while married to her first husband, Dennis.
However, Charles hadn’t known it was an affair or that Manpreet had a husband and family that she was keeping secret.
It all came to a head on their wedding day, when Manpreet failed to show up and vanished, returning to Dennis.
When did Manpreet and Charles get back together?
It didn’t take long for Manpreet’s marriage to Rishi to falter once Charles had arrived, and they first agreed to give their relationship another go in December 2021.
However, Manpreet’s evil sister Meena soon got in the way with her wicked plans, which included holding Manpreet hostage and drugging her for two weeks.
After her ordeal was over, Manpreet and Charles finally reconciled.
But will their relationship survive Manpreet’s reluctance to get married once again?
