A day in court served up a further twist for the former couple
EMMERDALE fans have sunk their claws into an ‘utterly disgusting’ character for their ‘unhinged and selfish acts’.
The ITV soap has been following the twists and turns between Rhona Goskirk and her ex-husband, Gus Malcolms.
Rhona was left stunned last year when she discovered Gus had stolen her frozen embryos to have a baby with his new wife, Lucy.
However, Lucy died while heavily pregnant, leaving Gus to try and raise the baby, Ivy.
Rhona and her family stepped in to help, and the vet bonded with her daughter, before kidnapping her when Gus revealed he planned to move away to France with Ivy.
Recent weeks have seen the pair locked in a court case, and Wednesday’s episode saw Rhona supply a statement to the court responsible for sentencing Gus, in the hopes it would trim his sentence down so Ivy wouldn’t be without her dad for long.
But as Rhona tried to read out her victim impact statement – the one Gus was hoping would slash years off his sentence – she couldn’t get through it.
“I’m sorry, I can’t do this,” she told the judge. “This isn’t true.”
She added: “Your honour, I need you to understand how it feels when you have no control over your own life.”
She then detailed everything Gus had done and how helpless it had made her feel.
Rhona then raged about how Gus planned to take Ivy to France, ranting at him for her own arrest for kidnap.
It was clear Rhona’s words had an effect on the judge, who tore into Gus for his behaviour.
She sentenced him for eight years for his crimes, meaning he will not be out for at least four, missing years of Ivy’s life.
However, some Emmerdale viewers felt that despite her ordeal, Rhona had still been selfish to not put Ivy’s needs before her own feelings.
One wrote on X: “#Emmerdale I pray the court takes Ivy away from Rhona, because there is no accountability for her unhinged selfish acts. Utterly disgusting woman.”
Another tweeted: “Is Rhona getting on anyone else’s nerves??”
A third tweeted: “I understand why Marlon lost it. Rhona does whatever she wants to. Yes Gus is total garbage but Rhona could have given Marlon a heads up.”
Meanwhile a fourth shared: “Rhona is insufferable.”
