It’s been six years since we last saw Adam Barton (Adam Thomas) in Emmerdale, and the calls for his return are still as loud as ever – with his former on-screen girlfriend Isabel Hodgins now adding her voice to the chorus.
Isabel, who plays Victoria Sugden on the ITV soap, has admitted she would make her ‘very happy’ to see Adam reprise his role.
‘I would adore it if he did come back,’ Isabel told Metro.co.uk. ‘I enjoyed working with him. I love him as a person.
‘I also really believed Adam and Victoria, and I really liked my engagement ring, and I really miss wearing my ring,’ she laughed.
Adam left Emmerdale back in 2018, when the character went on the run after confessing to the murder of Emma Barton (Gillian Kearney), in a bid to save his mum Moira (Natalie J. Robb) who had actually killed her.
While returning to the village might be problematic, given it could land him in prison, Adam himself refused to close the door on the idea during a recent chat with Metro.co.uk.
‘I’d like to go back one day, it’ll always hold a special place in my heart,’ the actor admitted.
‘I was a kid when I joined so I had some amazing memories there and I’d love to go back one day. I think my mum and my family are still in it and they’ve left the door open for me… you never know.’
While Adam’s sudden exit and other cast departures have left Victoria with a depleted amount of on-screen family in recent years, that is all set to change next month, when a mysterious new Sudgen arrives in the village.
Former Coronation Street star Oliver Farnworth will portray newcomer John Sugden, and Isabel says she can’t wait to have a new family member to work with.
‘The Sugdens [are] such an important family, but we’re really dwindling, numbers wise. And so, it’s nice to get another member of the team on board and fly the Sugden flag,’ she says.
