Emmerdale legend Clive Hornby was left hospitalised for eight days after an accident on set.

The Jack Sugden actor suffered a collapsed lung after a scene involving a tractor went wrong.

Clive played the iconic Jack Sugden from 1980 until 2008 when he sadly passed away from cancer aged 63.

He took over the role from actor Andrew Burt, who had played Jack between 1972 and 1976 and spent a whopping 28 years on our screens.

Speaking about the accident, Clive previously said: ‘It’s all right now but it made me realise that I never wanted to spend eight days again in a hospital.

‘I stopped smoking after that. Not cigarettes, cigars. Stupid to smoke cigars, I know, but you could say it was a turning point in my life.’

Clive was a popular member of the Emmerdale cast, with co-star Kelvin Fletcher recently posting a tribute to him on his Instagram account.

Kelvin, who played Jack’s adopted son Andy Sugden, referred to the late actor as ‘a mentor, a friend and a genuine guardian’ in the sweet post.

‘As for Clive, I really was in awe of him,’ Kelvin wrote. ‘He was a mentor, a friend and in many ways a genuine guardian. Not just of me but everyone at Emmerdale.

‘He was immensely proud of his role and the show’s stature and connection it had to so many people.

‘My character wanted to be just like him when he grew up and I guess a little bit of me did too.’
