Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) cried tears of relief in Thursday’s (February 22) episode of Emmerdale after Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) made her an offer that could save Angelica (Rebecca Bakes) from time behind bars.

We know Angelica is facing the prospect of saying goodbye to her family after being partially responsible for Heath Hope’s (Sebastian Dowling) death at the start of the year.

When Angelica initially revealed the truth to Nicola and Jimmy (Nick Miles), they resorted to playing dirty to try and help their daughter.

Sadly though, after having a chat with Ethan (Emile John), Nicola faced the prospect her child would more than likely be going to prison.

In tonight’s episode of the ITV soap, both sets of parents involved in this were feeling reflective.

They had been given the news of Angelica’s sentencing date, which made everyone – apart from Bob (Tony Audenshaw) – think about how this aftermath is causing another child’s future to be taken from them.

After Nicola broke down, the cafe was shut for the rest of the day so she could talk to Brenda. Despite the scenarios being totally different, they connected over the fact they are both mums experiencing the loss of a child – albeit a temporary one for Nicola.

As they spoke about Angelica, Brenda commented on how ‘locking her up’ won’t change anything or make her feel anything different regarding Heath’s death.

Brenda then put forward the idea of a witness statement for Angelica.

Nicola was moved and so unbelievably grateful. She returned home and told Jimmy, but he wasn’t feeling particularly optimistic after having another bad chat with Bob.

Nicola told her partner they need to focus on the bright side, and she’s absolutely right.

The witness statement certainly isn’t confirmation Angelica won’t be going to prison, but it’s something the Kings haven’t had for a while.

It’s hope.
