There’s a welcome return to Emmerdale soon for iconic character Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton), who has been away from the village since November 2022.

The character left amid heartbreak at the death of her lover, Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) – and the discovery that he’d been having an affair with Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) and was planning a future with her.

So Kerry took herself off and found work on a cruise ship, much to the dismay of her daughters Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) and Chloe Harris (Jessie Elland) – meaning she’s missed a lot of drama, especially in Chloe’s life.

We last saw Kerry in August last year when she made a surprise video call to her ex, Dan Spencer (Liam Fox), shortly before he was sent to prison.

Since then we haven’t really heard anything from or about her – so when she lands back in the village it has maximum impact.

In upcoming episodes Amy and Matty (Ash Palmisciano) are excitedly preparing for their upcoming wedding and have set a date. So they’re shocked when PC Swirling (Andy Moore) turns up – and he’s got Kerry with him.

Laura Norton described Kerry’s appearance on her return – dressed as pop legend Cher.

‘So we’ve got the full Cher regalia which is stockings, heels, hot pants, mesh leotard, and leather jacket with all the fringe and obviously a wig – just an amazing sort of interpretation of Cher,’ she laughed. ‘It’s quite an entrance that she makes.’

But why is she being escorted by PC Swirling?

‘She’s been accused of stealing jewellery on the ship. She is arrested and taken off the ship and brought back to Emmerdale,’ Laura explained.

Kerry tells Amy that she’s been falsely accused of stealing by her fiancé. She insists she’s innocent and Amy is hopeful that Kerry might settle down in the village and they can have a nice, normal relationship.

But will it be that straightforward?

‘Amy’s got lots of lovely things happening in her life and then in comes this car crash is the only way you can describe her really,’ Laura said. ‘I think Amy’s just flummoxed and deep down is probably happy that she’s back, but there’s always that trepidation isn’t there?

‘Trouble seems to follow Kerry around so I think she’s just cautious and wounded.’
