Moira Barton (Natalie J Robb) has confessed a massive secret to Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) in Emmerdale.
A few months ago, soap boss Laura Shaw told us that ‘Moira is going to make a big confession to one of the villagers’.
She added: ‘It’s a secret from her past that she’s going to reveal. She does it in a way to try to help the person that she’s talking to, but how is that person going to react when they find out Moira’s deepest, darkest secret?’.
It turns out the secret in question was Moira being responsible for Emma Barton’s death, something she told Charity in Friday’s (January 19) episode.
In 2017, a whodunnit storyline aired that focused on Emma Barton’s death. Among the suspects were residents including Adam Barton (Adam Thomas), Cain (Jeff Hordley) and Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy), but it was then revealed Moira pushed Emma off a bridge after Emma goaded her over the death of her daughter Holly (Sophie Powles).
In tonight’s episode, Moira paid a visit to Charity after her sudden outburst yesterday. Moira knew there was something going on and eventually, Charity broke down and said she was struggling after Damon Harris’ death.
Charity shot and killed Damon over Christmas. As Moira said, Charity killed Damon because she had to save Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb) but regardless of the circumstances, Charity still ended someone’s life – and she wasn’t coping.
As she fell apart, Charity attempted to get Moira out of her house but she wasn’t going anywhere. Moira asked Charity if she felt anger and intentionally killed Damon but she said no. To try and connect and help, Moira then said she knows what Charity is feeling, which led to a massive confession.
Moira sat down and told Charity everything about Emma Barton. She said Emma was winding her up about her children and couldn’t bare it, so she pushed Emma from the bridge and watched as she fell and died.
She then explained how her son Adam took the blame but afterwards, Emma’s fall played over and over in her head so much, she numbed the pain with alcohol and very nearly ended her life, only to be saved by Cain.
A desperate Charity wanted to know how long it’ll be until she starts feeling like herself again. Moira couldn’t answer her properly, but reminded Charity of the importance in opening up and telling Mackenzie – but that terrified her.The reveal of Moira’s secret was sudden and surprising – but will Charity tell anyone else?With Laura Shaw also teasing that this reveal ‘could threaten Moira’s whole life’, is this the beginning of a dark few months for the beloved character?
