Emmerdale star Lucy Pargeter addresses Chas and Liam future after setback

"It'll be interesting to see if it does go anywhere."

Emmerdale star Lucy Pargeter has spoken to Digital Spy about whether her character Chas Dingle and local doctor Liam Cavanagh could still have a future as a couple.

The pair briefly became an item this year, but they put their romantic connection on hold when Chas was diagnosed with breast cancer in a powerful storyline.

Liam has since started a tentative new relationship with Ella Forster, who’s working with him at the GP surgery.

Lucy discussed Chas’ future at an exclusive Inside Soap magazine photoshoot featuring three of the show’s most prominent stars.

Lucy, Emma Atkins (Charity Dingle) and Lawrence Robb (Mackenzie Boyd) all took part in the fun shoot, giving the trio a change of tone after recent heavy storylines.

Digital Spy was granted exclusive video access to the photoshoot and chatted to each of the cast involved.

Speaking to Digital Spy about Chas’ love life, Lucy commented: “Chas/Ella/Liam – I don’t know where it’s going to go. It’s certainly interesting because Liam was the first one to find the lump in her breast. There was that kind of connection.

“I think she’s just feeling quite vulnerable, and wondering where she’s going to go relationship-wise now that she’s in the situation that she’s in.

“I think she’s probably going back to what she knows because of the fear of going forward with somebody new. But it’ll be interesting to see if it does go anywhere because it’s quite an interesting threesome.”

She continued: “I think Liam and Chas make an interesting couple. When Paddy was with Chas, a lot of people said that they weren’t a good match. I think Liam’s quite different to Chas but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. They could be a good match.”

Last month, Chas considered declaring her feelings for Liam but was plagued with self-doubts and insecurities after undergoing a double mastectomy.

Chas decided that she’d missed her chance with Liam after spotting him share a kiss with Ella. However, Liam was secretly unsure about his future with Ella, fearing that he’d made a commitment to the wrong person.

Asked how Chas feels about Ella’s involvement, Lucy replied: “I don’t think she sees Ella as a rival, as a threat – as anything really. It’s more about Chas’ insecurities and feeling: ‘Right okay, I should have taken this step if I wanted to take this step with Liam’.

“It’s more disappointment and it’s her own way forward, really, that is more on Chas’ mind.”

She added: “Going forward it’s going to be really interesting to see the development of her character. She’s always been quite happy being on her own, but always longing for a relationship and wanting to be in a partnership.

“So it’s going to be interesting to see how they play it going forward, with her own insecurities about her body and how that’s going to affect her being able to find a potential new partner.”
