EMMERFAIL ‘Sharpen up!’ rage Emmerdale fans as they blast soap writers for turning character into ‘helpless buffoon’
It came as one character returned to the dales for good
EMMERDALE fans have been left raging at soap bosses after they accused them of turning one of the show’s longest-running stars into a buffoon.
The ITV soap opera aired a shock return for Vanessa Woodfield during the latest dramatic episode of the soap but fans were more distracted by a Dales stalwart as they called out the show’s “lazy writing”.
Viewers of the soap have seen how Rhona has ‘kidnapped’ her biological daughter Ivy after refusing to hand her back over to Gus.
Rhona had been caring for the baby in her home with the support of her husband Marlon and mum Mary amid Gus’ turmoil after losing his wife and Ivy’s ‘mother’.
Having developed a strong attachment to Ivy and treating her as if she were her own, Rhona was left heartbroken at the thought of having to give her back to Gus.
As such, she took off with little Ivy without warning and made her way to a country house.
Husband Marlon pleaded his concern for his wife but did very little to attempt to locate her – a move which has left fans flummoxed.
They were left asking why The Woolpack chef hadn’t gone out in search of her or made any meaningful attempt to locate her or Ivy.
Instead, he opted to leave a few voicemail messages and sit around in the hope that she would come back.
Taking to X – formerly Twitter – one Emmerdale lover was left raging at Marlon’s actions and blasted the show’s bosses for writing his character in such a way especially given that Vanessa, who has been missing for a year and a half, managed to locate her almost instantly.
hey seethed online: “This is still bugging me, why didn’t Marlon start a search for Rhona?
“All he did was stand there like a helpless buffoon and send loads of annoying voice messages, he never ONCE, tried to find her, and how did Vanessa find Rhona so quick?
“#Emmerdale Very lazy writing at its best, Emmerdale needs to sharpen up!!”
The episode ended with Rhona packing her belongings as she heard a firm series of knocks at her door.
In the same moment, Marlon was arguing with Gus as the latter was gearing up to call the police to report the kidnapping.
However, Rhona opened the door to a huge surprise for soap watchers as Vanessa Woodfield was standing on the front doorstep with her son Johnny who has clearly had a growth spurt.
Viewers were left with their jaws dropped and swarmed over to social media, happy to see the vet finally find her mark in the eponymous village again.
One fan wrote: “Omg Vanessa!!”
Another added: “Oh my god VANEESSSAAAA!!!!”
And a third said: “OMG! Vanessa is back!! Just in time to save Charity?!?!”
