Viewers know she stabbed him after waking up from a nightmare where she was being terrorised by gangster Harry.

Visiting Mack in the hospital, Charity told him: “I just needed to know you were OK.

“When you were stood over me and I woke up, I didn’t know it was you.

“Anyway I didn’t come to whinge, I just came to say I’m so sorry. And I love you. I know you love me to because otherwise you wouldn’t have stuck around for as long as you have.

“But this is the end of the road, OK? I can’t run the risk of doing this to you again so that’s it. You’re a free man.”

With that she kissed his forehead and left the hospital, returning home to her cottage.

Mack woke up and tried to call her name to get her to stay but she just left.

Meanwhile at the police station Cain discovered that Charity had been released and headed over to her cottage to find her.He asked her if she was charged and told her that no-one was blaming her, but instead she just said she needed to clean up the blood stained carpet.

And then she dropped a bombshell on him.

“I just want to be on my own,” she said.

“I don’t want anyone to know I’m here OK, I mean it. Please Cain. I don’t want anyone here, so just go. I want to be on my own. Please just go.”

Cain left and Charity rushed to lock the door before breaking down in tears alone.
