Coronation Street fans were thrilled watching an episode of Emmerdale recently, as TV favourite Trevor Dwyer-Lynch made an appearance.
Trevor portrayed Weatherfield resident Patrick Tussel from 2001 through to 2005. He became a much-loved character during his time in the ITV soap, becoming romantically involved with Janice Battersby (Vicky Entwistle) and finding himself feuding with her ex-husband Les (Bruce Jones).
Street Cars driver Patrick departed the cobbles in January 2005 after Trevor decided to leave the role.
Since his departure, Trevor has gone on to appear in shows such as The Bill and Casualty. More recently though, he popped up in an Emmerdale storyline involving Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano).
In the episode broadcasted on July 17, Trevor was seen on our screens portraying a prison warden. He was on hand to look after Matty, who had got into trouble with another prisoner in his cell.
Shortly after these scenes aired, fans quickly took to social media to express their surprise over recognising the Corrie star: ‘Looking good! Street Cars Patrick turned prison warden in Emmerdale’, one user said on X.
Another wrote: ‘Patrick the cabbie in Emmerdale tonight as a prison guard.’
Matty spent weeks behind bars after accidentally stabbing Samson Dingle (Sam Hall). In the aftermath, due to the fact Samson and friend Josh (Osian Morgan) lied about what happened, Matty was made to look like a guilty man.
However, after Samson confessed the truth, that path was clear for Matty to finally return home.
Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb) and Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) went to the hospital, where Matty was being treated for injuries he’d got his cell mate to inflict on him because he was so terrified of being in the prison after thuggish Robbo (John O’Neill) discovered that he’s trans.
Matty’s wife and his mum told him the good news – but at that moment the prison guard came into the room to take Matty back to prison. Until the court had made a decision, he was going back behind bars.
The next day, after court, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Amy went to pick him up after he was told that he was now a free man. They didn’t see him outside the court and headed home, where Moira was worried to learn that Matty was apparently missing. She set off to search for him and found him fairly easily at the playground.
Samson approached and said he was sorry. Matty wanted to know why, after everything, Samson was still protecting his friend Josh, who’d been the main instigator of what happened at the Hide the day Samson was stabbed.
He told Samson what it was really like in prison and gave him the advice that everyone had been giving him – to keep his head down and his mouth shut.
When Matty eventually returned home safely, Amy was overjoyed to see him but there was, sadly, a darkness hanging over this character.
He may be out of prison, but the ordeal certainly isn’t over for him yet.
