Liam’s final scenes, which aired last August, saw his character sent to prison following the manslaughter of his daughter Amelia’s (Daisy Campbell) creepy stalker Lloyd Sawyer.

Since exiting the show, Liam has kept himself busy by appearing in Pantomime as well as hosting a sports-based radio show.

And it seems the job offers haven’t stopped there after Liam has announced his next venture away from the soap – and it’s a big one.

The former soap favourite has revealed he will star in the big budget touring  production of hit musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Liam will take on the role of Grandpa Potts in the play when it tours the country later in the Spring.

The actor will star alongside Coyote Ugly hunk Adam Garcia during the show’s year-long tour.

Revealing his exciting new role, Liam wrote on Instagram: “Absolutely over the moon to be able to announce my next adventure post @itvxofficial @emmerdale as I join the cast of @chittyontour from this spring.”

He followed it up with hashtags “#grandpapotts #actorslife #excited #blessed @uktheatre @xroads _live” and said “cannot wait to get started.”

Liam’s former co-stars were quick to express their excitement at their friend’s career news.

Fiona Wade commented: “Amazing news!!! Yayyy! So happy for you darling! Yessss!!!”

While Daisy Campbell, who plays Liam’s on-screen daughter Amelia, gushed: “Here he is.”

She then followed her words with a flame emoji. Natalie Ann Jamieson, who plays Amy Wyatt, penned: “Omg you are soooo POSH with a capital P! Congrats.”

And Kevin Mathurin, who plays Vicar Charles Anderson, wrote: “Congratulations, Foxy.”

During his 13 years on the soap, Liam’s character Dan Spencer was involved in some of the soap’s biggest storylines including the 2015 helicopter crash which saw a string of characters dramatically killed off when a helicopter crashed into the wedding reception of Debbie Dingle and Pete Barton.
