ITV Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans devastated as spin-off series is axed

Fans of soap stars from some of the biggest roles in soapland have been left disappointed after a show was brutally axed from the ITV schedule

Soap fans were left devastated as ITV announced that they were cancelling a huge series starring some of the biggest names from soapland.

The axed show featured stars from Coronation Street, Emmerdale, and Hollyoaks but has been cut from ITV’s schedule after just one season. Reality TV series Drama Queens took a look at the lives of some of the most famous faces from fan-favourite soaps behind the scenes and during their own real-life drama.

Actresses who starred on the show included Coronation Street’s Lucy Fallon and Ellie Leach, known for playing Bethany Platt and Faye Windass, Jamelia and Jorgie Porter, known for playing Sharon Bailey and Teresa McQueen in Hollyoaks, and Emmerdale’s Laura Norton and Roxy Shahidi, known for their roles as Kerry Wyatt and Leyla Harding.

The series aired in April this year and ran for eight episodes, and featured footage including Ellie taking viewers backstage at the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour, Roxy performing on Dancing On Ice, and Corrie’s Brooke Vincent having a family gathering.

An ITV spokesperson told OK!: “There are no current plans for a second series of Drama Queens but the first series is available for viewers to enjoy on ITVX, and we wouldn’t rule out revisiting the show in the future.”

Another source told The Sun: “Drama Queens was launched amid a lot of excitement and fanfare, but proved logistically quite difficult and expensive to make. In the end, producers decided it was best to leave it as a one-off series and focus on new projects and trial new formats.”

Emmerdale star Laura was seen struggling to return to work after maternity leave and with two children on the show as she told viewers: “I’m up and down like a bride’s nightie. One minute I feel like ‘Yes, I need this and am ready for this and it’s really good for them, they need me to be off doing things’, but then on the flip side I just want to be near to them all the time and able to access them whenever I want to.”

She previously opened up to OK! about her return to acting as she said she was ”constantly checking her phone” to see that everything was alright with her kids, daughter Ronnie and son Jesse. She said: “ But I’m slowly starting to go, ‘Everything’s fine.’ I’ve come home and they’re both very happy, well rested and well fed – so now I can be present and do a good job.”
