Belle Dingle actress Eden Taylor-Draper has admitted she’s “so upset” about a major change on Emmerdale.

Eden has played Belle Dingle on the ITV soap since she was eight-years-old and has been part of a number of big storylines full of heartache. Things seem to be looking up for Belle as she is set to marry Tom King (James Chase) but fans are suspecting something’s not quite right with Tom and he has appeared controlling over her on multiple occasions.

Ahead of the wedding scenes next week, Eden has opened up about an upcoming storyline, which sees Tom keen for her to take his surname, but Belle is adamant she wants to keep her Dingle name.

Asked why her character wanted to keep her name, she explained: “I think she’s so passionate to keep her name as she is Dingle and proud to be so. The Dingle name means a lot to her. And I think especially with her mum not being there.

“I think that absence and their name is such a symbol for Belle. Tom doesn’t have his parents any more and he wants to continue the King family line. So I think it is a combination of that. He is not really pressuring her but he explains the reasons why he wants to continue the King name. He said she had just assumed she could stay a Dingle.”

Belle agrees to take Tom’s surname, but the decision has left Eden feeling “so upset”. However, backstage, the soap have tried to do all they can to make her still feel like a Dingle as she enters a new chapter in her character’s life.

“I am so upset to lose the Dingle name. Honestly, I read it in the script and I thought ‘NO!'” she explained, before adding: “I went upstairs to the scheduling department where each family is colour coded on the wall. The Dingles are pink. I have literally been pink my whole life. Whilst the Kings are a completely different colour. However the team in scheduling have said I can stay pink, so that means in my mind I’m still an honorary Dingle, thank goodness. I hope the Dingles will continue to think of me as a Dingle.”
