ITV Emmerdale fans say ‘finally’ as character exposed – but ‘mistake’ sparks confusion

Emmerdale viewers were a little puzzled by a confession on the ITV soap on Tuesday night.

Teenager Angelica King finally confessed to causing the death of Heath Hope, after driving recklessly earlier this month. Heath tragically died in a car crash earlier this year, with his dad Bob convinced that Heath’s twin sister Cathy had been driving.

Cathy had gone joyriding with the pair as they were keen to go to a club for New Year’s Eve, despite the fact she had not learned to drive. After a near collision, the episode showed the car had crashed with all three injured.

Heath was killed, and in the fallout, Angelica and Cathy both claimed the other was driving, with Cathy getting the blame. But in a twist of events, Tuesday saw Angelica finally tell Bob that Cathy was telling the truth, and they had swapped seats after all.

Angelica took over driving despite also not being able to drive, and she crashed the car. Her parents had urged her not to tell the truth, even though the police were investigating Cathy and Bob could barely look at his daughter.

As Angelica struggled with the guilt, she fled the house and told Bob what really happened and that she was the driver, not Cathy. Angelica ended up being arrested for causing death by dangerous driving, with her show future now up in the air.

Viewers watching the scenes unfold were glad the storyline had finally reached some sort of a conclusion, after weeks of Cathy and Angelica blaming each other. Many fans were happy Angelica confessed and that the plot could move forward.

Taking to X, one fan posted: “Thankfully she did so we didn’t have to go through that lie being dragged on for weeks,” as another said: “At long bloody last!” A third fan wrote: “Finally the truth is out,” while a fourth said: “Not often [do I] feel pleased for Cathy but do tonight, glad the truth’s finally out!!!”But some fans were pretty distracted, as Angelica was interrogated by officers. Some viewers could not work out how it took so long for the truth to be revealed, and how the police did not figure out the driver from the very start.

Viewers suggested Angelica would likely have had seatbelt bruising from the crash that would have given away where she was sat in the car, not to mention possible blood splatters that would also indicate this. One fan posted: “Surly the forensic evidence would of proved sooner that Angelica was driving!!”

Another agreed: “Nothing said about seatbelt bruising, that gives away what side of the car someone’s on…if they’re wearing one.” A third fan commented: “This is frustrating. They’d easily be able to work out who was driving with seatbelt marks and blood splatter positioning.”
