Emmerdale fans think they have figured out a huge character return after spotting a subtle clue on Thursday’s episode.
During the latest instalment, Charity Dingle tore a strip into Aaron Dingle for working with her partner Mackenzie Boyd in dodgy deals, pointing out he was in a vulnerable state after his ex Chloe Harris took their son Reuben. Trying to get Aaron to see sense, Charity mentioned his ex Robert Sugden.
Charity said: “Do you remember when you were raising Seb with Robert? You were a dad to that little kid, weren’t you? And I remember how crushed you were when Rebecca stopped access.”
Soap watchers were left delighted over the mention, hoping that it could be a hint Robert is set to return. Viewers will recall that Robert left the show back in 2019 after being sent to prison over the death of Lee Posner. Robert accidentally caused Lee’s death after he attacked him, following Lee horrifically raping his sister Victoria Sugden. Robert faced up to his crime and cut all ties with the village and his loved ones as he was sentenced.
But viewers have long hoped he may return, especially after hints that Robert may not have caused his death. Lee obtained injuries to his head when he was punched, but it emerged Lee had also been hit by his brother Luke and that might have led to his death. And with Robert mentioned on Thursday night, fans are hoping he could be returning.
Taking to Twitter, now X, one person said: “Another Robert mention! Really hope he’s coming back! #Robron #Emmerdale” to which another replied: “Starting to think there’s actually a chance…” Elsewhere, another person wrote: “Hallelujah Seb and Robert getting mentioned to Aaron….#emmerdale #robron”, a different viewer said: “Robert & Seb get a mention #Emmerdale” while another fan added: “Robert mention again #Robron #Emmerdale.”
Viewers are not the only ones keen for him to be released though, with Aaron Dingle actor Danny Miller confessing he too wants Ryan Hawley back on the show as Robert. He admitted last year that he’s keen to talk his co-star round, and get him to make a soap comeback.
Speaking to TV Times magazine, Danny said: “I’m still great friends with Ryan Hawley [who memorably played Aaron’s husband, Robert Sugden]. Adam Thomas [AKA Adam Barton] is off doing his own thing, as is Kelvin Fletcher [who portrayed Andy Sugden], but we’re all still very close.”I think if I could pick one person, though, I’d love to work with Ryan again. It’s just a case of if I can talk him round. Every single day I get a video or message saying ‘Bring back Robron!’. It’s nearly four years since Ryan left the show and I’m amazed that people are so invested in it. Fingers crossed we can get the band back together at some point.”
