ITV Emmerdale lining up major accident as two families rocked by ‘life-changing’ tragedy

Emmerdale boss Laura Shaw has teased devastating scenes on the way and a possible death, as the ITV soap will air a major accident that involves two family groups

Emmerdale fans will see two families face tragedy in the coming weeks or months, when news of an accident hits the village.

Two separate family groups on the ITV soap will be brought together as an incident leaves at least one life on the line. While details have yet to be confirmed for the storyline, producer Laura Shaw has revealed that a character will face jeopardy and it’s not known if they will live or die.

Spoilers do not reveal which character she is referring to and if they will die, with the families involved also not mentioned. But what is known is that the consequences of the accident and the aftermath will lead to “life-changing” consequences which are said to be “long running”.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press recently, soap boss Laura spilled that it would be a testing time in the Dales for all those involved. Laura noted that the condition of the injured character was “really serious”, with the scenes set to impact a number of villagers.

Laura said: “We’re gonna see an accident happen that’s gonna affect two big family groups. It’ll connect those family groups together. We’ll see someone in some really serious medical jeopardy, whether they live or die we’ll have to see.

“What I can tell you is that the ripples and repercussions from that accident will be very long-lasting and life-changing for a number of our villagers.” This isn’t the only big plot being planned for the rest of 2024, with Laura teasing huge scenes on the way for several characters.

We’ve got a new arrival linked to Will Taylor, while Will’s daughter Dawn Taylor faces heartbreak when her baby son Evan is diagnosed with leukaemia. Amid fans still yet to find out the truth about newcomer Ella Forster and what Kerry Wyatt is also hiding, there’s big scenes on the way for Belle Dingle and Tom King as their abuse storyline escalates.

Another storyline of note is Mandy Dingle and Paddy Kirk’s looming wedding. Laura is also planning a number of specially filmed episodes of the show, that are different to the usual format.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
