Emmerdale actress Paula Lane has teased her character Ella Forster’s mysterious past.
Earlier this year, feisty newcomer Ella made her village debut, where she stood up for Mandy Dingle at the vets social after loud-mouthed managing director, Jules, rudely teased the latter about her outfit. Later at the event, after Jules was rude to Ella and continued to tease Mandy, a furious Ella poured a drink over him and announced she was quitting her job.
After the commotion, Ella met up with Mandy, where she admitted she was worried about having no job. Later, Ella left to go as she declared she was off to find a new job, which was overheard by Manpreet Sharma. After Manpreet realised that Ella is a PA, she offered her a position as a receptionist at the doctor’s, where she has worked every since.
Only recently, Ella has sparked suspicion thanks to a love triangle with doctor Liam Cavanagh and Chas Dingle while actress Paula, 37, has teased that Ella is hiding a secret and already has a connection to the village. Taking to Instagram on Thursday night, Paula decided to tease more details about her character and storyline in a Q&A titled “I’m on location and on a break! Ask me a question!!!”

One fan asked: “Opinions on Meena Jutla?” amid viewers thinking Ella’s link could be to the former village murderer. Answering the question, Paula wrote: “I’ve been howling at all the speculation!” Meanwhile, another follower asked: “Can you give us a small hint on Ella’s background?” to which Paula replied: “I can’t give anything away but I promise you it’s worth the wait xx.”
Elsewhere, a different fan asked: “What’s been your favourite scene to film so far?” to which Paula responded: “I filmed it yesterday but you will have to wait until end of May to watch. Hands down one of my favourite scenes to film out of my whole career” and asked to describe her character in “one word”, Paula said: “Complex!”
It comes as Paula teased earlier this month: “Ella does have a past that is going to be revealed. She does have responsibilities elsewhere outside the village that mean a great deal to her and I’m so looking forward to exploring this further.
“When something or someone so important to her is put at risk she will fight so hard to protect that situation. This is a part of her we’ve yet to see and there is currently a lot at stake and a lot to fight for.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
