Manpreet Jutla (Rebecca Sarker) encourages Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) to return to the world of romance in Emmerdale next week as he tries to move on from Ella Forster (Paula Lane).
Ella was thrown out of the village by Liam after her secret was revealed. For months we became convinced Ella was somehow connected to Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) but when we discovered the truth, it was confirmed Ella’s dark past was kept hidden because when she was a child, she killed her best friend.
In the years since prison, she had moved from place to place, always having to move on when someone inevitably found out about her past.
When Liam learnt of this secret he felt overwhelmed with emotions. Liam had opened up to Ella about the murder of his daughter Leanna, and felt betrayed she never told him about the horrific crime she was responsible for.
In upcoming episodes of the ITV soap, Manpreet encourages Liam to rekindle things with Chas (Lucy Pargeter) when he resigns himself to remaining single. Prior to Ella’s arrival, Liam and Chas developed a romantic connection when Liam became a pillar of support throughout Chas’ breast cancer diagnosis.
As Liam ponders over what to do next, he remains unaware a mysterious figure is watching him in the village.
Later on, while at Tenants, Mandy realises there’s an intruder, and it turns out to be Ella.
Ella admits to Mandy that she’s returned to collect the rest of her things. As she departs, Mandy feels conflicted.Before long though, Sam (James Hooton) is seen phoning for an ambulance to alert them of a crash on a country road involving Ella’s car.
But will she be okay?
‘Ella will continue in the show, but her past will continue to haunt her,’ new Emmerdale boss Sophie Roper said when asked about Ella returning.
‘Her relationship with Liam will remain complicated and we’ll continue to question whether she’ll ever get her happily ever after and can she ever really escape the past that’s led her to this point.’
