1. Former flames reunited

Regular ITV viewers are not great fans of Mackenzie Boyd and some have even begged show bosses to axe him entirely.

In recent weeks, the hunky troublemaker portrayed by Lawrence Robb has been involved in a car-stealing scheme with Aaron Dingle.

But while they’ve been rubbing elbows, Mack has neglected his wife Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) as her mental health was on a slippery slope.

Regular watchers of the Yorkshire-based program will remember that the Woolpack landlady has been overwhelmed by her guilty conscience after shooting criminal Damon Harris aka Harry.

Charity’s well-being has been a cause for concern in the eponymous village as many of her close relatives have come to the realisation she needs help.

This week, Charity is still struggling but Mack is relieved when she finally agrees to get the support she needs.

But after approaching Harry’s grave, Charity starts to feel defiant and as she trashes it, in an attempt to take her power back.

Returning home after a cathartic day, Charity’s finally able to sleep.

But her relief is short-lived when that same night, Charity’s plagued by nightmares of Harry.

Tormented by her memories, Charity is spinning out of control, and continues to be triggered by loud noises.

She’s petrified when she starts having visions of the late Harry.

In other scenes, Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) begins to piece things together with Charity’s behaviour and senses something is seriously wrong.

But Charity feigns nonchalance when Mack arrives, concerned.

Once alone again, her panicked paranoia gets worse as she reaches for something to protect herself.

Then, Charity suffers from a night terror and ends up gravely injuring Mack in self-defence.

Will he survive?

While this remains to be seen, Vanessa Woodfield’s (Michelle Hardwick) recent return to the eponymous village has left viewers with the hope of a “Vanity” reunion.

Charity and Vanessa bumped into one another last week in David Metcalfe’s shop and, according to fans, the chemistry was still palpable between them.

And with Mackenzie set to be left at death’s door, their reunion could more than likely become a reality.

One fan in particular speculated that, unlike Mackenzie, Vanessa could be the one to bring Charity some well-needed change.

“Vanessa would notice that Charity isn’t fine”, this soap watcher penned on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“This would have been a great opportunity to have her back in Charity’s orbit.”

Could Vanessa take matters into her own hands and help Charity with her PTSD symptoms, thus forcing Mackenzie to accept their relationship has run its course?

Fans are certainly hoping so.

2. Mother’s revenge

Elsewhere in the village, Rhona Goskirk (Zoë Henry) shocked fans when she snatched baby Ivy and seemed more than ready t start afresh in Canada with the tot, forgetting her husband Marlon, her son Leo and stepdaughter April.

Unfortunately for Rhona, her former husband Gus (Alan McKenna) contacted the police, reporting her for kidnapping.

Despite the hurdle, Rhona remains determined to be a more prominent part of Ivy’s life this week.

Coming up, Rhona and her husband Marlon (Mark Charnock) seek legal advice from Ethan Anderson (Emile John).

He suggests they tell Gus about their plans to apply for parental rights of Ivy.

Later, Ethan breaks the news that Rhona will have to plead guilty to kidnapping in order to get the most lenient sentence possible .

In other scenes, Marlon receives a shocking call – who could it be from?

While this remains to be seen, a stressed Marlon and Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) need to pick Leo up from school after a fight.

Paddy and Marlon blame Leo’s outburst on Rhona’s preoccupation with Ivy.

They’re defeated when he’d rather spend time with Paddy than them.

April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) then arrives and makes it clear that she is also unhappy.

She gives Rhona both barrels for abandoning them and prioritising Ivy.

How will Rhona react?

As viewers will remember, Rhona faces a kidnapping charge as Gus reported her to the authorities.

However, one soap watcher took to Reddit, hoping that her mother Mary Goskirk takes action and brings Gus down.

“OMG Gus! I really hope Mary is true to her word and spills it all to the police. Gus needs a good smack down”, they penned.

Mary recently issued Gus with a chilling threat, hinting that she may be the one to put an end to the harrowing storyline.

Could she turn Gus in to the police for stealing Rhona’s identity and using her frozen embryos without her consent?

What’s next for Rhona?

3. Unexpected ally

Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) arrived in the Dales earlier this year in the hopes of fixing her marriage with Caleb.

Things seemed to be back on track between the pair as they were caught romping by Nate Robinson and Moira Dingle.

However, Caleb maintained he was not interested in rekindling the marriage although it didn’t stop his lover Tracy Robinson from ending their affair.

Unfortunately for them, Caleb and Tracy were found out by Ruby.

Caleb and Tracy were exposed during Tom and Belle King’s wedding reception at the Hide as Ruby dropped the bombshell on the Dingle with no preparation and all hell broke loose.

This week, Caleb (Will Ash) is desperate to get back into the Dingles’ good books and pleads with his sister-in-law Moira (Natalie J. Robb) to help him.

Meanwhile, Ruby is frustrated by the depths of his feelings for his long-lost family as she wants him all to herself.

As she realises she’s not Caleb’s priority, Ruby simmers and hatches a plan to get back at him.

Soon enough, Ruby approaches Kim Tate (Claire King) with an offer – to join her in making Caleb suffer.

While Kim has a motive to torment Caleb, another Home Farm resident has more of a reason to want to take him down – Gabby Thomas.

Rosie Bentham’s alter ego was devastated last year when her then-beau Nicky Miligan (Lewis Cope) backed out of their wedding on their big day after revealing he’d actually been pushed by his father Caleb to seduce her.

This was only for the purpose of taking the Tate family fortune away from Kim.

To top it all off, Nicky made it clear he had never been attracted to Gabby as he was actually gay.

Humiliated and heartbroken, Gabby wanted to get her revenge on Caleb and Nicky but she eventually had to step back as Kim refused to indulge her worst impulses.

Could Gabby decide to team up with Ruby to finally get payback?

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7.30 on ITV.
