ITV viewers were shocked when the village vet (portrayed by Zoë Henry) kidnapped baby Ivy from her father Gus Malcolms and was ready to fly away with her to Canada.

Unfortunately for Rhona, her former husband Gus (Alan McKenna) contacted the police, reporting her for kidnapping.

Despite the hurdle, Rhona remains determined to be a more prominent part of Ivy’s life next week.

Coming up, Rhona and her husband Marlon (Mark Charnock) seek legal advice from Ethan Anderson (Emile John).

He suggests they tell Gus about their plans to apply for parental rights of Ivy.

Later, Ethan breaks the news that Rhona will have to plead guilty to kidnapping in order to get the most lenient sentence possible .

In other scenes, Marlon receives a shocking call – who could it be from?

While this remains to be seen, a stressed Marlon and Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) need to pick Leo up from school after a fight.

Paddy and Marlon blame Leo’s outburst on Rhona’s preoccupation with Ivy.

They’re defeated when he’d rather spend time with Paddy than them.

April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) then arrives and makes it clear that she is also unhappy.

She gives Rhona both barrels for abandoning them and prioritising Ivy.

How will Rhona react?

Rhona was recently charged with the kidnapping of baby Ivy after taking her biological daughter away from her legal father Gus.

While she was being questioned by the police, Rhona explained that Gus stole her identity in order to use the previously fertilised frozen embryos.

She then begged the authorities to investigate and stop Gus from fleeing to France, like he had planned.

Rhona then asked if she could be left to tend to Ivy to which the police responded that the baby had been taken into care under social services due to Gus also being in custody.

Fans of the Yorkshire-based program have demanded soap bosses axe the storyline.

One fan took to social media and penned: “Another absolutely absurd plot.”

“The original team (if still around) must be embarrassed at the juvenile level of writing these days.”

“It was almost as if it was created just to bring Vanessa back.”

A second soap watcher echoed: “Was thinking the same thing.”

But what’s in store for Rhona’s family and Ivy?

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7.30pm on ITV.
