Many ITV viewers have grown to know and love actress Martelle Edinborough as Suzy Merton, a wedding planner introduced in the eponymous Yorkshire village as Vanessa Woodfield’s latest romantic interest.

Throughout her time in the Dales, Suzy was involved in Leyla Harding’s cocaine addiction storyline and it was revealed she also had a link to Holly Barton’s tragic 2016 death.

Since then, Suzy has managed to find her mark outside of her relationship with Vanessa and she could be due for another romance with Mary Goskirk.

Portraying Suzy Merton has catapulted Martelle into the spotlight but TV watchers may not know that Emmerdale isn’t her first time in soapland.

Martelle began her acting career in 2016 and she managed to bag several roles on the small screen, particularly in shows such as Doctors and Hollyoaks.

But in 2018, Martelle got a thorough introduction to the ups and downs of life in soapland as she joined the Coronation Street line-up for the first time.

During her first stint in the cobbles, Martelle took on the role of a court clerk and appeared at the trial of Anna Windass, who wounded Seb Franklin with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

Fans may remember that Anna, who was chagrined by her daughter Faye’s relationship with Seb but she had actually been framed by serial killer Pat Phelan for the lad’s attack.

One year later, Martelle took another role as she reappeared in Weatherfield.

This time, the actress portrayed Jasmine Ridgeway, a talent scout who tried to sign up Kirk Sutherland after he took part in the talent competition Rovers Got Talent.

Kirk’s partner Beth Tinker soon found out that Jasmine hadn’t been amazed by his singing voice – she was looking for a new comedy act for a tour of Pontins.

Martelle then returned to the Manchester-based program in May, 2021, and she was once again involved with Seb Franklin.

The actress appeared in the show for the last time as police family liaison officer Alison Wray, following the murder of Seb.

Fans were devastated by the death of Seb Franklin, which took place after he and his then-girlfriend Nina Lucas were attacked by Corey Brent and his friends.

Several months later, in March, 2022, Martelle was given the chance to have a more prominent role in Emmerdale and the rest was history.

Martelle Edinborough recently opened up about a near-death experience on her Instagram account, where she is consistently active.

The actress shared a photo of herself laying on a hospital bed and captioned her post with a message showing off her gratitude for her life after undergoing brain surgery.

“Happy Life Day to Meee! 2/2/2020. Today marks 4 years since I suffered and survived a subarachnoid haemorrhage caused by a ruptured aneurysm”, she explained.

“The survival rates of a ruptured aneurysm are pretty bleak and so every year I celebrate just how blessed and lucky I am to still be here.”

” My journey back to self hasn’t been an easy one, suffering a second SAH in 2021, getting diagnosed with a rare vascular disease as the root cause and undergoing preventive surgery last year to treat another aneurysm.”

“BUT my arse still here…growing and glowing and so so GRATEFUL!!”

As mentioned above, Suzy Merton is due back in the spotlight in upcoming Emmerdale scenes.

Martelle’s new ITV alter ego has been tipped for a new storyline and chaos could be ahead as Vanessa Woodfield has returned to the village.

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7.30pm on ITV.
