Marcus Dean left Emmerdale last year in a surprising turn of events, leaving Ethan devastated.
The character was in the Dales for just a year before he departed the village and split from Ethan Anderson (played by Emile John). Marcus was played by soap newcomer Darcy Grey and was introduced as the son of villain Pierce Harris.
“Marcus’ time in the village came to a natural end. Darcy is keen to spread his wings but the door has been left open,” a source said at the time when Marcus left the village in a surprise final storyline – but the door has been left open for a potential return.
Whilst he has not been seen in the Dales for a whole year, his ex Ethan is set to be involved in a huge new storyline, as he leaves Nicky for dead in a horror car crash and desperately tries to keep his involvement under wraps.

When he joined the soap, Darcy described the role as a “pinch-yourself” moment.
“When my agent sent me the character of Marcus Dean, I was quietly smiling inside. We share so many similarities, both the good – and perhaps – some of the bad! I thought ‘I know who this kid is’. To then get the call to say that the role was mine was one of those pinch-yourself moments we actors simply dream of,” he shared.
“For Marcus, the battle of being torn between wanting to forget his relationship with his Dad but also ultimately, wanting to simply be loved is a challenge many of us face, and one that I hope I can bring some truth to. He is such an open book, with such an uncertain future that I just can’t wait for you all to see where his journey in the village takes him!”
Before he signed up for the show, Darcy was selling posh dog food. He said: “It has been a long hard graft to get to this point, and when Covid hit, it was a wipeout. There were moments where I wondered whether the acting work would ever come back. I managed to get a job selling posh dog food at the weekends, which was a saving grace. I don’t know what I would have done if I hadn’t.”
Marcus on Emmerdale was played by newcomer Darcy Grey. The character was introduced in 2022 as the long-lost son of the villainous Pierce Harris.
Marcus’s storyline revolved around him trying to connect with Rhona Goskirk, who was tormented by his father. He also formed a relationship with Ethan Anderson. However, things took a turn, and Marcus eventually left the village after cheating on Ethan.
The reasons behind Darcy Grey’s departure from the soap aren’t entirely clear, but it reportedly coincided with the conclusion of Marcus’s storyline. Some fans speculated there could be more to it, but officially, it was described as a natural ending for the character.
