WHY DO IT? ‘Surprised she agreed to it!’ swipe Emmerdale fans as returning star ‘stitched up’ with ‘ridiculous’ comeback scenes
The villagers comeback storyline has been revealed following their surprise return.
EMMERDALE fans have taken a swipe at the soap for ‘stitching up’ a star with a ‘ridiculous’ comeback scene.
The ITV soap has seen a number of characters return in recently months, including Vanessa Woodfield and Aaron Dingle.
On Thursday night, it was the turn of Kerry Wyatt, who has been absent from the village for 16 months.
Kerry left as she struggled to cope with the death of her partner Al Chapman, but despite her sombre exit, her comeback was at the opposite end of the scale.
The character arrived in a police car which pulled up in front of her stunned daughter Amy and her boyfriend Matty.
But the couple got a further shock when Kerry got out of the car dressed as pop superstar Cher during her 80s big hair era.
Her look was completed with a leather jacket and denim hot pants as she held onto her wig in the wind as she tried to explain her unexpected arrival, having been working on a cruise ship during her absence.
However, some Emmerdale fans were not impressed by the scenes, and felt actress Laura Norton deserved more.
Writing on a soap fan forum, one viewer said: “The writing for Kerry’s return to Emmerdale was ridiculous, the part that I saw before switching off.
“I am surprised that an actress of her talent agreed to do it.”
Another added: “Why does Kerry always have these strange returns. We remember the last time she returned to the soap when she was working in that big house as a cleaner and then revealed she was the real mother of Chloe [Harris].”
A third commented: “It was pretty stupid. Why would she still be wearing her stage gear?
“Was she performing on stage right up until the ship docked and just did not have time to go back to her cabin, pack and get changed? Why continue to wear the wig for the whole episode?”
Another pondered: “Were we meant to assume that Swirling gave her a lift, because she obviously was never under arrest. Not very well explained.”
Now she’s back in the village, spoilers have revealed what Kerry’s first storyline is going to be.
In scenes airing next week, Kerry tries to prove to Amy that her trouble-making days are behind her by agreeing to be civil with former love rival, Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter).
However, she can’t help but eavesdrop when she overhears her on the phone with the hospital.
Following her into the pub, Kerry offers Chas some tentative support.
Although Chas is surprised by the sudden turn in their relationship, she discusses her double mastectomy with Kerry and agrees to bury the past.
